The WoodenBoat Show!
Five great families, large and small, came together at the Mystic Seaport Museum to build five Chuckanut kayaks during the 20th annual WoodenBoat festival! Starting with pre-cut kits, each family assembled strongbacks, mounted the frames, stringers and stems, and fastened them all together. Frames complete, they attached the fabric for the hull and decks, ironed out any wrinkles, and fitted and shaped the rest of the trim. Voila! In just three days, everybody got to show off - and take home - their completed boats! At home, all they will need to do is paint the skins and they'll be ready for many years of fun!
I had a great time, and it was a joy to work with everyone. I'd also like to thank Paul Helbert and Anna Mendez, who selflessly donated their time and effort to help this all come off so well!
I didn't take too many pics, but here are a few fond memories....
